-

MUCH loved locomotives are being put into service at East Lancashire

Railway for the Western Region Weekend on April 13 and 14.

‘Teddy Bears,’

‘Warships,’ ‘Hymeks,’ ‘Peaks’ and ‘Hoovers’ are the names affectionately associated with some of the heritage locomotives to pay tribute to what was formerly known as the Great Western Railway (GWR).

Also referred to as ‘God’s Wonderful Railway,’ the Western Region saw commuters flocking to and from London and tourists arriving at holiday destinations in Wales and the West Country, making it a line of memories for many.

Train enthusiasts won’t want to miss the chance to experience the thrill of riding behind these remarkable heritage locomotives.

In addition to the heritage diesel fleet, steam locomotive 4079 ‘Pendennis Castle’ and ‘Bubblecar’ W55001 will be present over the weekend, with the latter

traversing rare track around Bury Station and will be attached to the rear of a service train

Mike Kelly, Chairman of the East Lancashire Railway, said “What better way to celebrate the bygone days of holiday trains to the west country than by coming to our Western Region weekend.

“East Lancashire Railway is proud to host so many iconic locomotives, and our themed timetable will pay

tribute to the Western Region by letting enthusiasts immerse themselves in the days of old.

To attend the Western Region weekend, Day Rover Tickets can be purchased to experience the full day out, with family tickets helping train lovers to see the locos for less.
