Olympic ten return home with healthy medal haul

JUST 10 of Rochdale Olympic Gymnastic’s Club’s members travelled to Stockport School of Gymnastics to participat­e in the 2024 Stockport Easter British Classic Challenge Championsh­ips.

Between them the gymnasts amassed a huge medal haul of 34 placings on the podium, with three Overall Individual Champions, two Team positions in the top three, and six awards from the Beam Judges.

The day’s proceeding­s got off to a fantastic start when three gymnasts competed in the Copper category – Charlotte Barrett in the aged 12 category, Daisy Whittaker in the aged 14, and Millie Nuttall in the 15+ section.

Charlotte competed at this level for the very first time with new skills across all four pieces of apparatus performed confidentl­y, earning a second position on Vault.

Millie had a clean competitio­n earning second place Overall and also being rewarded with second on Bars, first on Beam and second on Vault.

Daisy had a super event, earning her the Overall Title, finishing in first place Overall aided by second place on both Bars and Beam.

All three gymnasts were credited with Awards from the Beam Judges, Millie and Daisy for sticking to their routines and Charlotte for beautifull­y connected flicks.

The girls’ scores combined together earned them a third place on the podium in the Copper Team Competitio­n.

The proceeding­s next saw the gymnasts in action in the Zinc Competitio­n. The aged 12/13 category saw Lola Whittaker, Tais Amorim, Ellie-mae Hill and Edie Ogden compete, with Scarlett Hanley, Lottie Peacocke and Maisie Whitlow contesting the

Aged 14+ section.

In the younger age group the girls took the top three positions on the podium in the Overall standings, with Lola Whittaker being crowned the Overall Champion, closely followed by Edie Ogden in second and Tais Amorim in third place.

Lola’s victory was backed up with first placings on Bars and Beam, with Edie taking third on Vault, third on Bars, second Beam and second on Floor.

Tais was rewarded with second on Bars and third on Floor.

Lola earned a Beam award for an amazing flick, with Edie collecting one

for a beautiful Wolf Spin.

The older age group saw Maisie lift the trophy as she took top spot in the overall standing being crowned the Champion with Scarlett finishing in third place Overall.

Maisie was also credited with second on Vault,

first on Bars and first on Beam with Scarlett taking first on Vault and third on Bars and Lottie taking second place on Bars. Maisie also warranted a Beam award for a super clean routine.

The combined scores from Maisie, Scarlett, Lottie

and Edie saw the Team finish in second place in the Team Competitio­n.

The girls are now back in the gym working hard for their forthcomin­g events in the next few months where we will see them travel to Warrington, Halifax and Redcar.
