Sassi’s loan spell at Dale extended

-

ROCHDALE were handed a boost ahead of the Easter weekend double-header with the news Dan Sassi has extended his stay at the club until the end of the season.

The defender signed on an initial one-month loan from Blackpool last month and that deal has now been extended.

Sassi has made six appearances for Dale so far, most recently helping Jim Mcnulty’s men to a clean sheet and 1-0 victory over Maidenhead United last Saturday, playing the full match.

He was in contention for a starting place in the Good Friday game against Gateshead at the Gateshead International Stadium and Easter Monday’s home game against Hartlepool United.

Meanwhile, Max Taylor has joined Solihull Moors on loan, also for the remainder of the campaign.

●●GEORGE Nevett won a second cap for Wales Under-19s over the weekend.

He played the full 90 minutes in their first friendly against Belgium on Friday.

Cymru fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat, before beating their Belgian counterparts by the same score line on Monday, with the Dale defender an unused substitute as the squad was rotated.

Meanwhile, Tiernan Brooks was an unused substitute in the Republic of Ireland Under-21s 7-0 win against San Marino, in their 2025 UEFA U21 European Championship qualifier.

It solidated their second spot in qualifying Group A, with four games remaining. They are a point of group leaders Italy and four clear of Norway, although they do have a game in hand.

Both players returned to Dale this week ahead of the club’s Good Friday fixture against Gateshead.

●●DALE Women were beaten 3-2 Atherton Laburnum Rovers Ladies on Sunday.

Goals from Shannon

Gill and Ellie Fergus had put Dale into a 2-1 lead, which should have been 3-1 when Jodie Cocker headed in off the underside of the bar, but the referee deemed the ball not to have bounced over the line.

Atherton capitalised on that and scored two quickfire goals late on to take all three points in the Greater Manchester Women’s Football League Premier Division.

Dale have the opportunity to bounce back this Sunday when they travel to Salford United away from home.
