Dale Women hit Boltonians for six

-

DALE Women were 6-0 winners over Boltonians Ladies in the Greater Manchester Women’s Football League Premier Division on Sunday.

Chloe Latham opened the scoring early on, firing an unstoppable shot past the Boltonians goalkeeper.

Alicia Barnett added a second soon after from a direct from a corner kick.

Dale created several chances but were denied by some incredible goalkeeping, as Boltonians kept the score at 2-0 heading into the interval.

However, soon after the break, Georgia Cocking made it three with a 25-yard effort which found the top corner.

When the visitors did break through Dale’s strong defence, goalkeeper Emily Salt was on hand to deny them.

Brooke Strudwick added a fourth when she tapped in Wiktoria Makowska’s cutback from the byline.

Barnett scored a special goal to make it five, beating two defenders and then performing a ‘Maradonna turn’ on the edge of the area, before finding the bottom corner.

Makowksa grabbed a goal of her own to round off the scoring, driving down the left side before chipping the onrushing goalkeeper.

Manager Lee Atkinson commented: “I’m really happy with the three points and the quality on show. I’m especially happy to have a few players back from injury, such as Olivia Fierro who had been out since pre-season.

“Wiktoria [Makowska] has struggled to get going this season due to injury but is improving every week. Kirsty Bella is another player who is back from illness, and we know what she brings to the squad.

“We have our toughest game of the season next up, when we face

Atherton away on Thursday night.

“It’s a must-win game for them but we’re looking forward to the challenge. We’re still on for a top-three finish in our first season.

“Shannon Gill returns from suspension for the game, and she already has six goals against Atherton and will be looking to add to that tally.”
