MR Brian Simcock, of Thorn Drive, Bacup died peacefully in Fairfield hospital on Sunday, June 19, aged 82.

A service was held at the Chapel of Rest on Wednesday, July 6 followed by cremation at Burnley conducted by Mr David Ireland.

Born in Bacup where he lived all of his life, he was employed for many years, until its closure at Temperley’s Pipe Works, Middle Shop.

He enjoyed holidays abroad – mainly coach trips to Spain – playing dominoes, breeding budgies and living with his dog and best friend Ziggy. He also kept a grey parakeet.

He leaves six children, eight grandchild­ren, great-grandchild­ren, sisters Grace and Nellie, nephews, nieces and many friends.

KATHLEEN SMITH

MRS Kathleen Smith, of Lyndale Avenue, Haslingden died on Thursday, June 30 at her home, aged 87.

Wife of the late Arthur, she leaves her sons Ian and Andrew, daughtersi­n-law Isobel and Michelle, grandchild­ren Daniel, Martin, Adrian and Nicholas and great-grandchild­ren Lauren, Olivier, Joseph and Nathaniel and her cousin, who was like a sister, Muriel.

Kathleen was originally from Lancaster and moved to Haslingden in 1961.

She qualified as a yoga teacher in her fifties and taught throughout the Rossendale Valley, retiring in her 80s, but still enjoyed going to classes and also joining Tai Chi.

A lifetime member of Rossendale Golf Club, at one time she was the oldest female playing member.

Kathleen enjoyed walking and holidays in the Isle of Skye. She had joined the walking club at Haslingden Sports Centre.

Her funeral was due to take place on Thursday, July 7 with a service at St Peters Church, Haslingden at 12.30pm followed by cremation at Accrington Crematoriu­m officiated by Rev Stephen Brown.

EDITH FEDEROW

MRS Edith Federow, of Sunny Bank House, Hurst Lane, Rawtenstal­l, died peacefully at home on Friday, July 1, aged 86.

Edith came from Austria to live in the Valley in 1950. Married to the late Peter Federow she spent many happy years living on Prospect Road in Rawtenstal­l.

In the 1950s she worked at the former Whiteheads cotton mill in Rawtenstal­l as a bobbin winder and latterly at Smith and Nephews in Cloughfold.

A popular and muchloved character, she worked as a volunteer in local charity shops for over 10 years.

Her passion for arts was evidenced by her yearly exhibits at annual local amateur garden shows where she won many prizes and trophies for her work.

She is remembered by her family and friends as a happy, generous and fun-loving person, always having a tale to tell with a twinkle in her eye!

A much-loved mother to Rona, she was grandmothe­r to Livia and Jack, and greatgrand­mother to Gracie, Scarlett, Alfie and Raef.

A Requiem Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 19, at St James the Less Church, Rawtenstal­l at 10am.

All friends are welcome to attend, no dress code is specified.

Family flowers only please, however donations, if desired, requested to Rossendale Hospice.
