Pupils on slide for good marks

-

WELL-BEHAVED pupils at a Ramsbottom school were rewarded with a day of fun on an inflatable slide.

Staff decided to thank the children at Peel Brow School for their fantastic behaviour by giving them the chance to ride a 25ft bouncy slide.

The school were also celebrating after being upgraded from ‘requires improvement’, to ‘good’ in a recent Ofsted report.

The students at the Fir Street school earn ‘Tower Tokens’ for displaying good behaviour such as opening a door for someone else or letting a friend join in a game they are playing.

At the end of the term the Tower Tokens are traded in for a treat. Last term the children had a circus skills session where they learnt to juggle and even ride a unicycle.

Year one teacher Claire Gill said: “The children all try really hard to earn Tower Tokens. They are so lovely and display good manners all of the time.”

Peel Brow headteacher Mr. Danny Mellor said: “We have a brilliant behaviour policy in place at school.

“It is extremely positive and the children respond well to it. It was so good to see this recognised in our latest Ofsted report in July 2016 which graded the school good in all areas.”

In the report by the education watchdog, lead inspector Kathleen McArthur said: “Rigorous staff performance management targets and well-focused professional development have successfully raised the quality of teaching to good.”
