Fell shows some forward thinking

- RACHAEL WARHAM

RAMS BOTTOM United are poised to make their first signings of the summer ahead what is set to be a busy period for the Lancashire side.

After losing strikers Gareth Seddon and Josh Askew, manager Mark Fell knows time is ticking to fill their positions but hopes the club will soon able to make an announcement.

He said: “We think

‘We think that these new players will take us to the next level’

we’ve got two new players.

“We’re speaking to a couple of strikers and we hope to get something over the line in the next two weeks.

“We’re close to bringing in someone with pace, which is what Josh brought to the side.

“We want that same pace and power. I think the club will be putting out a press statement soon but we think that these new players will take us to the next level.”

However, Fell knows that until the transfer win- dow opens at the start of July, the Rams are in limbo.

“It’s a horrible time for managers as until the start of July we’re just relying on the word of players to say they will come to the club as they can’t sign,” he said.

Reflecting on his side’s first season in NPL Division One North, Fell bemoaned the four point reduction his side received in the middle of a fine run of results.

“Around the Christmas period, we were on a streak of winning nine out of 11 games,” he added.

“Then we got the point reduction which saw us drop off and go on a losing streak.

“Without the point reduction, we would have finished 11th instead of 14th.”

Despite the disappointment of losing vital points, Fell is hopeful his side will make improvements in their second season.

He said: “We met the club’s expectations in that we wanted to stabilise the club.

“The plan now is to build on last season and improve our consistency and put a mixed season behind us.”

And without Paul Fildes at the club, Fell reckons that having autonomy over the side has further increased their chance of improvement.

He said: “You have to have a certain dynamic for it to be successful when there are two people in charge.

“Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.

“It’s the normal situation now.

“It’s a situation where you have full control and don’t have to run anything past another person”.

Rams fans will have to wait until August 17 for the league to restart but exciting times lie in wait for the Lancashire side to see which new faces will be coming through the doors at the Riverside Stadium.
