ROSSENDALE REVEALED

-

THIS week Barry Hyde, member of the Promoting Rossendale Partnership Board, will be looking at Stubbylee and Moorlands Parks in Bacup. STUBBYLEE and Moorlands Parks are set in beautiful countryside just outside Bacup town centre.

They are a haven of peace and beauty, but with surprising sights around each corner.

In 2014 I wrote highlighting the many virtues of Stubbylee and Moorlands Parks and still feel that these parks are true ‘Hidden Gems’ with many established attractions.

These include a football pitch, a Dementia garden, three tennis courts and two well-maintained bowling greens.

The Stubbylee fairy dell is a surprising element which is a short walk meandering by a stream from the duck pond through lush trees and ferns down a series of steps into the dell itself.

There is also a children’s playground with lots of equipment and an outdoor gym, where you can exercise to the sound of sheep bleating on the moors beyond and, last but by no means least, there is Stubbylee Hall, standing proudly in the centre of the park as a reminder of the history of Bacup in the 19th Century.

Recently, thanks to the Friends of Stubbylee Park and the Stubbylee Community Greenhouses Volunteer Group, with support from RBC and funding from the Lancashire Environment Fund, Rossendale Borough Council and Newground, Stubbylee Park has now extended its facilities to include an already popular £32K Cycling Pump Track and with the opening of the new £50K refurbishment of the Stubbylee Barn Stables Complex, housing a community cinema, wellbeing hub, artisan workspaces, bicycle recycle workshops each Friday and a muchneeded café, which opens 10am to 4pm on Wednesdays to Saturday each week, the parks now have everything that visitors would want and expect.

The Bacup and Stacksteads Carnival will be held in the Park on Sunday, June 25 and included in the Carnival will be the official launch of the Bacup Flowerpot Festival.

So check out their Facebook pages for details of workshops where you can create your flowerpot sculpture.
