Bacup set to host City’s 92

-

SALFORD City’s newly formed Academy 92 will take on a Bacup Borough FC Select X1 on Saturday, kick off 11am at the Brian Boys West View Stadium.

The Academy is aptly named 92 in recognition of their illustrious owners, former Manchester United class of 92 members Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes Phil Neville and Nicky Butt.

The Academy’s sporting director is Chris Casper, another former United man from the 92 vintage.

This game replaces the previously scheduled game with Hoddesdon Town from Hertfordshire who had to withdraw due to circumstances beyond their control.

Bacup manager Brent Peters said: “I am pleased to accommodate Acadamy92.

“This will prove to be an excellent work out for both sides.

“The fact that quite a lot of my first team squad are unavailable due to holiday commitments means this game will offer me the opportunity to combine the remaining first teamers with some of our under 18s and maybe some of our newly formed under 21s.

“Whatever team I put out, I know that this will be an extremely tough game. Given they are full time they will be strong, fit, athletic and certainly well organised.

“I think I am right in saying four sixteen year olds turned out for Salford City’s first team last week against FC United of Manchester and looked anything but out of place.

“I am sure anyone who comes to watch will see some excellent football, there will be no charge on the gate, however we would gratefully accept donations.”
