Boys on parade in their Cub and Scout uniforms
IN this week’s Memory Lane, we take a look back at Scouts and Cubs from Rawtenstall taking part in processions in the Valley.
Our regular Memory Lane contributor, Peter Fisher, has sent us a host of pictures which were passed to him by Neil Collier.
They show youngsters who were part of Rawtenstall St Mary’s Cubs and Scouts in years gone by.
They can be seen in their matching uniforms, carrying flags and marching through the streets of towns and villages.
The first image (top left) shows boys from both Cubs and Scouts, parading down Bank Street in Rawtenstall in around 1963.
The second picture of the week (top right) is also from 1963.
The Scouts can be seen beating drums as they march down Bank Street.
Below this (right) is a shot of Rawtenstall St Mary’s Cubs in Bacup in around 1961, led by John Dickenson. The flag bearer is Neil Collier.
Next (bottom right) is a snap of Rawtenstall St Mary’s Scouts in around 1963. Neil Collier is third from the left.
Finally (bottom left) is a photograph of Rawtenstall St Mary’s Cubs in around 1963 in Queen’s Square in Rawtenstall.
If these pictures bring back memories, please get in touch.
Many thanks to all our regular nostalgia contributors.
