Stacksteads’ dream team partnership
CRICKET the umpires’ car windscreen.
Dawson was brought back into the attack and almost immediately bowled out Clarkson for 42 before having a hand in running out Hussain to reduce Wanderers to 178 for 7.
With no sign of their 11th player, Stacksteads only needed one more wicket to claim two bonus points, however resolute defending from the last two batsmen, who put preserving their wicket a higher priority than scoring potentially match-winning runs, denied Stacksteads, as their innings closed on 189 for 8.
Dawson finishing with 3 wickets for 25 runs off 14 overs.
Hindle and Jonathan Butterworth both carried on where they left off the last time they batted together, timing their run chase to perfection without the need to take any unnecessary risks on the way.
The pair took advantage of one less player on the sizeable outfield to maximum effect and it was Butterworth who played the more attacking role, scoring eight boundaries and even hit a rare six.
At one point it looked like Stacksteads may reach the target without any loss of wickets, however Hindle was bowled out for 56 in a partnership of 131 before Butterworth followed 20 runs later for a seasons best of 71. Matt Croney and Ellis Hussey negotiated the remaining 39 runs without any further scares with the pair gaining valuable time at the crease as their team strolled to victory with 21 balls to spare finishing on 23 and 26 not out respectively.
This Saturday Stacksteads are away to Padiham 2nds. ●»
