Future looks bright

BACUP Borough manager Brent Peters believes that his side’s pre-season game against Academy 92 provided all the things that he loves about football.

Bacup picked up a 2-1 win in the game at the West View Stadium against the newly created academy side set up by Salford City’s owners.

Peters really enjoyed the game, and felt that the efforts that were on offer from both teams was something to be proud of.

“It was a pleasure to host this game against Academy 92.

“Their professionalism, attitude, commitment and skill factor was there in abundance for all to see,” he said.

“The template that Salford City are using for these boys I fully endorse, even in this short time they have been together.

“You could see by their stature, strength, attitude and ability that these boys will have an exciting future.

“From my point of view it was important we played the three x 30 minute games as this did allow me the chance to play our U18s together.

“The Academy 92 included boys from 16-18 year olds, but our under 18s included boys at 15 and 16, so not only younger but also not hav- ing the same privilege of being full time.

“I was really pleased by their efforts and ability of our young boys, who for the 30 minutes really gave as much as they got against them. I was really pleased with what I did see.

“This game proved to be an excellent work out for both Academy 92 and ourselves, and the football at times that both sides produced was good on the eye.

“My senior players did not hold back showing their competitive edge, whilst the Academy 92 boys were very much happy to give out as much as they got and they more than stood up to this.

“I really did enjoy this game and I enjoyed watching a good bunch of well drilled completive young boys from the Academy 92.

“I enjoyed seeing our young boys from Andrew Walker’s group commit themselves exceptionally well, and I enjoyed the attitude and commitment of my senior players.

“The result was not important but their work ethics was so important.

“It was pleasing that we went out in the last 30 minutes and did turn the game result wise around, showing yet again good determined attitude, so it was an excellent day at the office for many reasons.”
