Cup cheers but league priority

- JACK ADCOCK

RA MS BOTTOM United manager Mark Fell admits he would love to see his side beat Hyde United in the second round of the League Cup on Tuesday – but insists the league is still the main priority.

Fell’s team take on Goole in the league this weekend before tackling Hyde.

“I’d love to beat Hyde, we want to be strong on all fronts, we have already given a good account of ourselves in the FA Trophy, so the key is to back that up with a cup run in this competition,” said Fell.

“It’s been won by a team in our league for the past two years, Bamber Bridge won it last year so it’s very possible for us to win it. We want to be as good as we can and as competitive as we can in every competition. Play-offs are a minimum for us really. We want to be in and around those play-offs come the end of April the league is our bread and butter but we will back ourselves to have a good run in this competition as well”.

A victory over Hyde would see Ramsbottom progress to the quarter finals but Fell will be resting key players.

“I imagine both teams will probably rest a few players because the league cup isn’t taken as seriously as other competitions.

“For me, we want to win every game we play. We want to put as good a side as we can out there. We are lucky that we have a squad that allows us to rest a few but bring in players that are of an equal standard.”
