Grieving mum speaks after horror car smash claims life of ‘soulmate’ son, 21

-

THE grieving mum of a 21-year-old man killed in a horror Easter car crash has paid touching tribute to her ‘soulmate and sidekick’.

Kavana Taylor, who was in a blue BMW 1 series, died after the car was in collision with a blue Volkswagen Polo in the early hours of Easter Sunday.

Now Kavana’s parents, mum Claire and dad Ian, have spoken for the first time since the tragedy.

Claire, 39, paid tribute to her son, from Whitworth, in a statement released through police on Tuesday and said his death had ‘left a void that will never be filled’.

She said: “Kavana was everybody’s friend. The cards, messages and support have blown me away. He was my soulmate and sidekick and the best biggest brother to Sammy, Lola and Rudi. He has left a void that will never be filled.”

Kavana’s father Ian, 55, also paid tribute to his son, a former pupil of Whitworth High School.

He said: “He was the best loving son a father could ever wish for. He was my best mate. He will be always loved and sadly missed by everybody who knew him.”

The crash happened on Manchester Road in Castleton, Rochdale, near the Blue Pits Inn pub.

Kavana, who lived in Rochdale, was treated at the scene but died from his injuries. A second man who was in the BMW, aged 25, received minor injuries and is currently assisting police with the investigation, Greater Manchester Police said.

Kavana, a motorbike enthusiast known to friends as Kav, celebrated his 21st birthday just a fortnight before his death.

Friends are rallying round the family and a host of fundraising appeals have been issued.

Dozens of bunches of flowers and messages of condolence have been left at the scene of the crash. The driver of the Polo sustained minor injuries.

An investigation into the collision has now been launched.

PC Seamus Toal, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, appealed to anyone with dash-camera footage to come forward. He said: “My thoughts are with the Kavana’s family and loved ones. I cannot imagine what they are going through. We are hoping that the public may be able to help us. We are also keen to speak to anyone who saw a blue BMW 1 series in the area of the collision or in Rochdale town centre in the early hours of Sunday morning.”

Call police on 0161 856 4741 or 101.
