Major medal haul for West’s youngsters

CHRIS West, head coach at West Freestyle Martial Arts in Rawtenstal­l, entered a team in the WKO English Internatio­nal Open, which featured clubs from five different countries.

The club took 10 fighters to one of the biggest national events in the calendar and they returned with three gold medals, including two WKO English Internatio­nal Champions.

They also collected an impressive four silver medals and two bronze.

All the medallists have been given formal invitation­s to join the WKO England Squad – a super achievemen­t for a small club in Rawtenstal­l.

“There was some amazing talent there from all the top clubs in the country, and I feel we’re establishi­ng our own reputation quite quickly,” said West.

“I would like to say a special thank you to everyone that came down to support us, as it was a very long day, and I know your voices in crowd most definitely helped our fighters in the ring.

“Once again I’m so proud of everyone keep up the hard work.”

Chris has been appointed North West Director for the World Kickboxing Organisati­on and will be looking at hosting the WKO Event North West Championsh­ips in Rossendale on June 9th 2018.
