Six-hit Tigers hold on
FOR the second successive week, Rossendale Under 9s Tigers beat Milnrow, surviving a secondhalf fight back to run out 6-3 winners.
Playing on a 3G pitch, the Tigers dominated the first half and after a couple of near misses took the lead when Earl Penny-Murphy put Rafi McDonald through to score.
Against the run of play the home team equalised but this didn’t deter the Tigers and they almost went back in front when after good skill by Rafi a Milnrow defender turned the ball against his own post.
It did become 2-1 when Earl scored with a shot from distance and Earl then set Thomas Egan up to score leaving the half time score 3-1.
Milnrow came out fighting in the second half and made it 3-2.
The Tigers’ two goal lead was restored when Daniel Cowley turned in a Joshua Bailey corner but Milnrow soon made it 4-3 and the Tigers then had to withstand some pressure.
However, the defence stood firm and two late goals sealed the win. Thomas set up Rafi who scored at the second attempt to make it 5-3 and Thomas scored the final goal after robbing a defender.
