Six-hit Tigers hold on

FOR the sec­ond suc­ces­sive week, Rossendale Un­der 9s Tigers beat Mil­nrow, sur­viv­ing a sec­ond­half fight back to run out 6-3 win­ners.

Play­ing on a 3G pitch, the Tigers dom­i­nated the first half and af­ter a cou­ple of near misses took the lead when Earl Penny-Mur­phy put Rafi McDon­ald through to score.

Against the run of play the home team equalised but this didn’t de­ter the Tigers and they al­most went back in front when af­ter good skill by Rafi a Mil­nrow de­fender turned the ball against his own post.

It did be­come 2-1 when Earl scored with a shot from dis­tance and Earl then set Thomas Egan up to score leav­ing the half time score 3-1.

Mil­nrow came out fight­ing in the sec­ond half and made it 3-2.

The Tigers’ two goal lead was re­stored when Daniel Cow­ley turned in a Joshua Bai­ley cor­ner but Mil­nrow soon made it 4-3 and the Tigers then had to with­stand some pres­sure.

How­ever, the de­fence stood firm and two late goals sealed the win. Thomas set up Rafi who scored at the sec­ond at­tempt to make it 5-3 and Thomas scored the fi­nal goal af­ter rob­bing a de­fender.
