St Mary’s do double over title favourites

A huge 3-2 victory for St Mary’s saw them complete the double over Garstang and edge closer to the teams above them.
St Mary’s got off to a great start on 6 minutes when Lewis Hanley opened the scoring, and 15 minutes later it got better as Alex White doubled St Mary’s lead on 18 minutes.
Garstang reduced the arrears on 35 minutes to set nerves jangling, and with half time approaching Garstang were awarded a penalty which they converted to send the teams in level at the break.
Garstang, who had scored 74 goals in 23 games before this match, would have expected to go on and win the match, but the all-important next goal came for St Mary’s on 76 minutes when Lewis Hanley got his second of the game to give St Mary’s the lead which they held to the end for a valuable three points.
Although still at the bottom of the table St Mary’s are closing in on the three teams above them with games in hand.
St Mary’s play their postponed Richardson Cup Semi Final on Saturday when they play Euxton Villa at Blackpool Wren Rovers Ground with a 3pm kick off. The following Tuesday St Mary’s are back in league action when they are at home to Thornton Cleveleys, 6.45 kick off.
St Mary’s Reserves came back from a goal down on Monday night to record a good 3-1 home win over Turton Reserves with three goals in the last 15 minutes from Oliver Hall, and a brace from Sam Moriarty.
