St Mary’s do double over ti­tle favourites

WEST LANCS LEAGUE PREMIER DIVI­SION GARSTANG....................... 2 HAS ST MARY’S .............. 3 HASLING­DEN St Mary’s fight against rel­e­ga­tion con­tin­ued as they trav­elled to top of the ta­ble and Premier League ti­tle favourites Garstang.

A huge 3-2 vic­tory for St Mary’s saw them com­plete the double over Garstang and edge closer to the teams above them.

St Mary’s got off to a great start on 6 min­utes when Lewis Han­ley opened the scor­ing, and 15 min­utes later it got bet­ter as Alex White dou­bled St Mary’s lead on 18 min­utes.

Garstang re­duced the ar­rears on 35 min­utes to set nerves jan­gling, and with half time ap­proach­ing Garstang were awarded a penalty which they con­verted to send the teams in level at the break.

Garstang, who had scored 74 goals in 23 games be­fore this match, would have ex­pected to go on and win the match, but the all-im­por­tant next goal came for St Mary’s on 76 min­utes when Lewis Han­ley got his sec­ond of the game to give St Mary’s the lead which they held to the end for a valu­able three points.

Although still at the bot­tom of the ta­ble St Mary’s are clos­ing in on the three teams above them with games in hand.

St Mary’s play their post­poned Richard­son Cup Semi Fi­nal on Saturday when they play Euxton Villa at Black­pool Wren Rovers Ground with a 3pm kick off. The fol­low­ing Tuesday St Mary’s are back in league ac­tion when they are at home to Thorn­ton Cleve­leys, 6.45 kick off.

St Mary’s Re­serves came back from a goal down on Monday night to record a good 3-1 home win over Tur­ton Re­serves with three goals in the last 15 min­utes from Oliver Hall, and a brace from Sam Mo­ri­arty.
