Mistakes at back prove costly for Bacup

-

CARLISLE CITY ....... 2 BACUP BOROUGH ... 1 BACUP Borough came up short on Saturday after they were beaten away from home against Carlisle City.

Carlisle started the game really well, working hard all over the pitch in an event to not let Bacup settle.

The visitors performed better as the half progressed, and despite chances for both sides it was goalless at the break.

It didn’t take long into the second half for Carlisle to take the lead as they scored thanks to an individual error from Bacup.

A clever ball was pushed into the space between centre back and left back, and the advancing player to the left of Davison Banda was given the chance to run in behind the defender which resulted in players leaving their post to close the danger, this created gaps from which the home side exploited before shooting themselves into the lead.

Bacup continued to fight and the the equaliser came when Josh Walne had been fouled.

The resulting free kick was delivered with quality by Walne, from which Michael Gervin on the blind side of the pack got himself in there to get his side right back in the game.

Bacup were having a really good go at this time in attempting to win the game, but with minutes remaining, a Carlisle free kick wide on the Bacup left was delivered with quality and with such pace that it allowed the hosts to head home and earn the victory.

While Bacup deserved a share of the points, the result came right down to the finest of margins, and in the end it was two poor individual decisions that proved costly.
