PRIVATE patrol teams to clamp down on littering, fly-tipping and dog fouling (‘Crack down on litter and dog mess on way?’, October 12) Andy Williams: Great idea...but create the jobs through the council... otherwise fines are simply making A N Other money. Keep the money in the borough! David Foxcroft: It’s good to see action being taken, but it feels a little odd that the council won’t get any money in return for giving the company a licence to operate in the Valley. Surely it’s not out of the question to be asking for 10 per cent of the money made which can then be invested back into the community. Ruth Keating: I also think there needs to be some sort of campaign to clean up areas in Rossendale.

We’re new here and when we went into Rawtenstall we visited B & M and walked by the riverside.

What a disgrace it is. Perhaps you could be inventive as to how the place gets cleared of all the litter and shopping trollies?

Perhaps Community Service people?

Just a thought from a newbie. Mike Brooke: Oppose this strongly, we had them here in Flintshire.

They do not target dog fouling, their main target is smokers, following them James Stroud: RBC can’t stop litter collecting as part of “cut backs” and then fine people for littering... lead by example! Ildiko Greenwood: Wow littering and dog fouling have turned into real crimes, whereas rape, burglary, sometimes even murder get a slap on the wrist.

What is this country coming to? Karl Mather: I think it’s a really good idea.

Yep, it’s a shame RBC can’t employ its own local staff, but government cut backs mean it simply can’t.

Biggest problem I can see is that most littering around Rawtenstall Town Centre occurs late at night. Sheila Birt: This can be a good thing if it works. Tell them to follow the school kids along Bacup Road. They alone will pay their wages. Wendy Ann: This was first discussed at the neighbourhood forum at beginning of year. Let’s hope it is implemented quicker than the new CCTV system. Elaine Smith: Good... about time people picked up dog poop. Cathy Ashworth: How would you identify the Real Team and on spot fine shouldn’t be enforced. Asnunza Mios: Dog poo bins would help Susan Hurrell: About time but employ locals.
