Youngsters pull off victory dance

DANCERS put their best feet forward in a threeday major competition and walked away with four major team trophies.

Samba Dance and Fitness, of Market Street, Whitworth, took a team of some 50 adults and children to the Dance Factor Championships 2018 in Pwllheli, North Wales.

The prestigious competition attracted entries from all over Great Britain and Ireland.

Included in the Whitworth entry were seven students from Whitworth Community High School.

Freya Bingham and Millie Eyre, both 11, were part of a team called Eclipse, which won the U12s Inters competition.

Five other Whitworth students Brooke Thompson, 11, 14-yearolds Maddie Mellor and Jaye Bingham, Jessica Jones, 13, and Georgia Mellor, 15, were in the U16s team Phoenix which picked up the winners’ trophy.

The students all danced in a moving interpretation called ‘The Fallen’ which told the story of ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’.

It was picked as the best in the Show class and left some judges in tears.

Dancers also competed in solo classes, pairs and the parents’ team won a trophy for coming second with their Cirque de Samba routine.
