Best of the bunch
THIS late-flowering bulb will really brighten up a dull day with its vivid bright pink flowers.
The lily-like blooms are all the more eye-catching as they are on bare stems (the leaves appear in spring but die down for summer).
Originating in South Africa, this plant needs a really sunny, sheltered, warm position.
The base of a southfacing brick wall would be an ideal position.
Nerine bowdenii may take a year or two to bulk up but once it feels at home, it will flourish.
It doesn’t enjoy sitting in wet soil so well drained is better, and you might provide some protection if the weather gets very cold this winter.
