Rossendale Juniors book national final slot

GOLF ROSSENDALE Golf Club Junior Team triumphed in the national regional semi-final (held at Davyhulme Park golf club) to qualify for the England Home Nations inter-club national final.

The final is to be held at Cumberwell Golf Club (Bath) on Sunday.

In the semi-final they defeated the other four clubs competing by six shots. It was a team of six with five scores to count, four net and one gross.

Harry Lord shot 2 under gross (70) and the four best net were achieved by Emily James (69), Isaac Gregson (70), Jake Paolo-Yeoman (70 including six pars on the last six holes) and Jack Wedgeworth (75). A fantastic team effort from a team which apart from Harry who is 17 are all 13-14 year olds!!

The final will consist of five clubs from the five main areas of England.

The top two in the final will qualify to play against teams from the other home nations (Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland) early in the new year at the European Tour venue, Morgado in Portugal.

Junior team manager, Derek Cropper, said that he is immensely proud of the team’s achievemen­ts considerin­g that the competitio­n consists of more than 90 clubs from the length and breadth of England.

Derek said: “The junior team’s success is down to the amazing amount of hard work that the junior committee at Rossendale have put in over many years.”

The team has had other major notable success over recent times when in 2016 and 2017 they won the right to represent Lancashire in the England Golf junior club of the year championsh­ips.
