Quarry wagons petition

-

A RESIDENT has collected a petition hitting out at the number of quarry wagons passing through a housing estate.

Colin Love, of Pennine Road, Bacup, claims that the number of wagons driving up the road to and from Tong Quarry is not safe.

He has described the situation as ‘an accident waiting to happen’.

He said: “The wagons shouldn’t be coming through a housing estate. There’s kids all over the place.

“I complained about three months ago to Lancashire County Council (LCC) and they’ve done nothing.

“The road’s already congested with parked cars on both sides.

“It needs speed restrictions or speed bumps or whatever.”

Colin, 61, says he has got 144 signatures on a petition calling for action.

An LCC spokesperson said: “There is an quarry off Pennine Road that has planning permission for the extraction of minerals, followed by restoration with soilbased materials. The permission is subject to many conditions including one controlling the number of heavy goods vehicles that can leave the site.”

He added people can contact them if they are aware of any breaches of planning control which are adversely affecting them.
