Events that show Rossendale at its best
WE have many unique events which bring the community together, and events which bring people from further afield too.
Many are driven by community spirit.
The annual round the hills walk, for example, or the recent art studio open weekend. Then there’s the Gravy Wrestling annual event, or the black pudding throwing.
All are events - plus many more - which show Rossendale at its best.
To that list (and I know there are many more) we can now add the Helmshore Scarecrow Trail (see page 3). The weather was on the side of the organisers, but it was great to see hundreds of families and groups getting out in the fresh air to find the dozens of scarecrows carefully crafted by some very creative minds.
From Ghostbusters opposite Helmshore Primary, to the Harry Potter inside the school grounds, or the ET on Mercer Crescent, or the snowman opposite the sports centre, there were some brilliant creations.
The event, like so many others held around here, was testament to what can be achieved when communities come together and do great things.
People are already talking about joining in next year - hopefully we have another annual event to add to the calendar here in Rossendale.
