Brave Ella is pride of Britain

-

A BRAVE youngster has won a Pride of Britain award after raising thousands for the hospital that saved her life.

Ella Chadwick, 11, was told the news by England legend, David Beckham, but said the best part of the night was meeting Simon Cowell.

Ella, from Whitworth, was born with a rare kidney disease, and has spent much of her life in hospital. She was on dialysis for six years and has had more than 40 operations including a life-saving kidney transplant op at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (RMCH).

In May 2015, just a year after her transplant, Ella completed the Mini Greater Manchester Run and the following year abandoned her walker to wobble across the finishing line just months after taking her first steps.

Combined with other initiatives such as fun days and cake sales, Ella has raised £5,000 for the RMCH charity.

She received a standing ovation at the starstudded ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel after winning the Child of Courage award. The Daily Mirror Pride of Britain awards will be show in full on ITV1 at 8pm on Tuesday, November 6.
