Neighbours Nelson are hit for four

HMS FIRST DIVISION NORTH NELSON......................... 0 BACUP BOROUGH ....... 4 MATTHEW LAWSON IT was a short trip this week for Borough from the Rossendale Valley to the town of Nelson for their North West Counties First Division match at Little Wembley.

Boss Brent Peters went with a mix of youth and Experience for Saturdays fixture.

Borough found themselves 1-0 up inside the first 15 minutes, it came following a intricate passage of play on the right hand side, when Walne and Hall linked up well. The later produced a wonderful left footed cross into the danger area inside the box where it was met by Darcy O’Connor who guided his header past the keeper from close range.

Harry Turner pulled off an unbelievable save just before the half hour mark to deny the hosts an qualifier, a header from close range was clawed away at full stretch by Turner.

Following some great persistence from Wing Back Josh Walne, Borough could have had a second of the afternoon on the 30 minute mark… Hall played a superbly weighted ball down the right, Walne got to the byline and neatly pulled the ball back for Michael Gervin who was lurking at the edge of the box, unfortunately his right footed effort was blocked by an out rushing defender.

Following a string of great chances for Borough they were unlucky not to go into the half time break with more than a one goal lead.

As the second half began Borough looked to up the tempo and were 2-0 up 10 minutes in. A surging run from O’Connor was brought to an end as he was fouled on the edge of the box. Gervin stepped up right footed and routed the keeper as if flew past the wall into the back of the net. ●● Brent Peters

The hosts then found themselves down to 10 men, midfielder Charlie Lloyd was shown a second yellow card and given his marching orders by the Referee.

Moments later Borough had a penalty, Gervin tried to stay on his feet following contact in the box but the referee pointed to the spot as he saw there was no advantage to be gained. Anthony Hall and as he does finished superbly with his left foot, sending the keeper the wrong way to make it 3-0

Borough continued to frustrate their opposition as they were able to keep a hold of possession for large parts of the game, reducing Nelson to shots from Distance when ever then managed to get the ball of the lads in White.

Bacup were awarded a second penalty of the afternoon, this time from A Darcy O’Connor freekick, the man in the middle of the jumping wall raised his hands and the referee had no choice but to point to the spot for the second time. For the second time in the afternoon Anthony Hall made no mistake as it was a carbon copy of his first. Left footed sending the keeper the wrong way.

Brent’s side were unlucky not to have a fifth, as a surging run from Josh Walne saw him in the opponents box, he unselfishly laid the ball into the path of Kyle Brooks but his effort was saved by the keeper at his near post.

Following such a positive performance the lads will look to take that in to their next fixture which is at Home to Daisy Hill FC on November 3rd
