Our Pride groups bloom at awards

-

COMMUNITY groups in Bacup and Weir were delighted to win a plethora of awards from Britain in Bloom judges.

Bacup Pride and Weir Pride attended the Royal Horticultural Society It’s Your Neighbourhood awards in Southport and walked away with nine certificates including the highest honour ‘Outstanding’ - bestowed on Bacup’s Wall of History Garden on Todmorden Road.

Chairman Pat Smith said: “We had been determined to get these beds improved on last year’s Level 4 award, and we did - we got a Level 5 Outstanding, the highest level there is.

“A huge thank you to everyone who has helped on the garden in whatever way, whether regularly or for just the occasional session, we couldn’t have done it without you.”

The final accolade for Bacup was a Level 4 Thriving for the planters on Irwell Terrace.

Weir Pride also secured a Level 4 Thriving for Heald Lane’s Blooming Borders and the quirky jeans planting was among five entries to receive a Level 3 Advancing.

Thrilled secretary Julie Cunliffe said: “In just two years we have made a tremendous difference to the village.”
