REVENUE POLICING?

-

AFTER some 40 years of ‘ fine free’ motoring I now find myself with two speeding tickets on Todmorden Road in Bacup, alleging 36mph and 37mph, the second at a distance of 201.5 metres but I noticed that on the camera calibration certificate it is only calibrated at 50, 75 and 100 metres.

In response the police have said there is a calibration certificate, but I can’t find it. I have also contacted the camera manufacturer ( twice) but to date no response.

There appears to me to have been a massive increase in collecting revenues in the Rossendale Valley ( what I call revenue policing).

Personally, I think that police officers are being put under pressure to generate income given the Government cutbacks in funding but obviously no one will admit to that.

We do need to control speeding but we also need a balance in police activities at a time when a large percentage of crime goes unsolved. Dr Bob Barker Stacksteads
