New revival for Vogue

- EMMA CURRY

ADJ father-of-two is set to give the former Vogue nightclub in Rawtenstall a complete ‘revival’ in time for Christmas.

Simon Kaden-Smith, aged 38, who lives in Edenfield, has taken over the lease of the club which closed around two-and-ahalf years ago and will relaunch it under the name Revival on Decem- ber 1. The dad of two girls, who has worked as a semiprofessional DJ, in promotions and in bars in both the UK and Spain, is completely refurbishing the nightclub and wants to provide people with ‘a safe, good, enjoyable night out’.

Simon said: “It was pretty dingy so we have completely gutted the place. We want rid of the whole Vogue thing. Everything will be new.”

Simon aims to create a ‘full show experience’ in the new club, with a raised stage, a VIP area, plush seating and intelligent lighting.

“It won’t be just a club,” Simon added. “We’ll be doing events, bringing in DJs. It won’t be just a typical night out, we are trying to bring entertainment into it. The DJs have been hand picked to provide that, and there will be a mix of music.”

David Byrne will be the resident Saturday night DJ, while Jacob Lakeland will DJ Friday nights.

Simon said he wants the club to be ‘chic but welcoming’, with a ‘huge bar’, serving a range of drinks and offering fast, friendly service.

“It won’t be a premium club, we want to attract everyone,” he said “We’ll be serving mainly bottled beers, wines and spirits. We are going for speed of service. We want a friendly team, welcoming the customers. I’m working very closely with the door staff, promotions and behind the bars. No one will be moody or heavy handed.”

Simon, who had taken a break from working in the clubbing scene to focus on his daughters, aged 16 and seven, said he decided to take the nightclub over after the Queens Arms on Bank Street shut down, leaving ‘a hole’ in Rawtenstall’s nightlife scene.

He said: “An opportunity came up. There are all these micropubs popping up, but there’s a lack of anywhere to go later in the night. I have a 5am licence so this was an ideal chance. We want to bring people into the town and provide a safe, good, enjoyable night out. We want to have a duty of care, to be looking after people.”

A recruitment event will be held at the club on Monday, November 12 at 7.30pm.
