Tributes to councillor who has stepped down due to her health
TRIBUTES have been paid to a long-serving councillor who has been forced to step down due to ill-health.
Cribden ward Conservative representative Janet Graham has given up her seat after 13 years of service. The seat will remain vacant until the local elections in May 2019.
Coun Brian Essex, leader of the Conservative group on Rossendale council, paid tribute to his former cabinet colleague saying: “I would like to pay tribute to the work and dedication undertaken by Janet Graham as councillor for the Cribden Ward in Rawtenstall since 2005.
“She has battled for some time now but has decided that she can no longer carry out her duties to the best of her ability.
“We have worked together in the cabinet from 2006 until 2011 and she held a number of portfolio positions including communities and neighbourhoods.
“Her wise and calm manner will be missed by the Group.”
Mid-Rossendale county councillor said he was sad to see her colleague step down.
He said: “I know this hasn’t been an easy decision for her having tried incredibly hard to see through her term.”
