BY even the most rudimentary calculation Rossendale and Darwen people have sent, at today’s rates, well over £300 million to the doomed EU Project over the last 45 years.

All this at a time when our local services and amenities have suffered appallingly. Just look around you.

This has happened equally during both the administrations of the Conservative and Labour parties.

And now we are suffering from severe austerity cuts and reduced to effectively begging for grants in order to spruce up the local areas.

Where were the voices of protest from the council chamber, and indeed from the local media, during this period?

I can’t recall anyone, except UKIP activists, highlighting these facts, and we are still being demonised and ignored in equal measure.

Apologies and resignations are long overdue. Granville Barker via email
