Rid­dle of ‘se­ri­ous in­juries’ as man, 22, placed in coma

A MAN had to be put in a med­i­cally in­duced coma af­ter be­ing found at the bot­tom of a 30ft wall with ‘very se­ri­ous in­juries’.

Po­lice said the 22-year-old was spot­ted by a mem­ber of the pub­lic on a foot­path off Black­burn Road in Hasling­den, close to St James Church.

He was taken by am­bu­lance to hos­pi­tal where he was put in an in­duced coma.

The man was found shortly be­fore 2.30pm on Wed­nes­day, De­cem­ber 5.

An in­ves­ti­ga­tion has been launched to es­tab­lish how he suf­fered the in­juries but de­tec­tives say at this stage there is ‘no ev­i­dence to sug­gest third party in­volve­ment’.

De­tec­tive In­spec­tor Scott Wadding­ton, of East CID, said: “This young man has suf­fered some very se­ri­ous in­juries and we are try­ing to piece to­gether what has hap­pened to him.

“At this stage there is no ev­i­dence to sug­gest third party in­volve­ment in this case, how­ever in the ab­sence of any other ex­pla­na­tion a num­ber of fur­ther en­quiries will be nec­es­sary to­day to es­tab­lish the full cir­cum­stances.”
