GRIDLOCK IS UNNECESSARY
AS I was trying to get home from Rawtenstall last week I was again frustrated at having to stop at every red light along Burnley Road between the market and the fire station. Two things occurred to me:
At certain times of day the vast majority of drivers just want to get through Rawtenstall either to reach the bypass and the M66 or to reach Burnley Road. At these times, surely the lights could be synchronised to allow the bulk of traffic to pass straight through?
Also, the gridlock at the start of Bacup Road seems totally unnecessary. If Bacup Road were to be made one way as far as the roundabout, with Bocholt Way being one way from the roundabout to the fire station, one complete set of congestion could be eliminated.
I’d love to hear a traffic expert’s views on this. Geoff Blow Moorcroft Edenfield
