Homeless supported by runners and supermarket
RUNNERS teamed up with a supermarket to help the homeless at Christmas.
Festive fare from Bacup Morrisons worth £200 was bought and donated to those sleeping rough in Manchester city centre.
The money was raised through raffles at trail races in Whitworth, combined with vouchers from the supermarket.
Damon Spillane and Dawn Topps, from the Homeless Project Manchester, visited the Irwell Street store to do the big Christmas shop.
They are volunteers who almost daily go into the city centre to provide food and clothing to those out on the street.
Prolific charity race organiser Andy O’Sullivan MBE said: “Once again Morrisons Bacup have supported me to provide much needed food for the homeless, they are so generous every year.”
Nikki Davies, community champion at Bacup Morrisons, said: “It is heartening to help those less fortunate, those living out on the street.”
Damon later collected clothing and rucksacks donated by customers.
• Shoppers visiting Haslingden’s Tesco supermarket on one day before Christmas donated £305.15 to a bucket collection for Rosemere Cancer Foundation.
The charity works to bring world class cancer treatments and services to cancer patients being treated at Rosemere Cancer Centre at the Royal Preston Hospital, and also at local cancer units, including at the Royal Blackburn and Burnley General Teaching Hospitals.
