Heffron loses out in shot at Williams
MARK Heffron came up short in his challenge for the British middleweight title after he was beaten by Liam Williams on Saturday.
Williams stopped Heffron in the 10th round of their fight to claim the vacant belt at the Manchester Arena. Williams was fairly dominant throughout the fight, with Heffron unable to have much success throughout the contest.
It looked like it would go the distance, but Williams landed a good shot in round 10 that resulted in Heffron receiving a count from the referee. Heffron was able to continue, but Williams continued the onslaught and forced the referee to step in and end proceedings.
It means that Heffron suffered the first loss of his professional career, and he praised Williams for coming out on top in the fight.
“Well it was wasn’t my night, you win some and you lose some,” said Heffron.
“We clashed heads early in the fight and I just wasn’t right after that but no excuses Liam was the better man so congratulations to him.”
Heffron now has a record of 21 wins and one defeat after the loss, while Williams has 19 wins, two defeats and one draw, with both of those losses coming against Liam Smith last year.
