PLANS ARE A DISASTER

-

RE: Council chiefs’ ambitious £750m boost for the Valley economy by 2033 (December 14). Having been a Rawtenstall resident all my life - 64 years, over the years the council cannot plan their way out of a paper bag.

It took a lot of protests to stop them from demolishing the old town hall - only half of it is still there. The old shopping centre was a great mistake, demolishing a good part of Bank Street and Kay Street which had some good stone built shops.

The new bus station should have been placed at the end of the bypass where Mcdonald’s is placed, then a footbridge could have been put in place to get to the railway station.

That would have made an effective transport hub. How long has it been to develop New Hall Hey? At last some units have been filled.

Then you have all the new estates being built up and of course local Valley wages cannot fund mortgages on them. Just more homes for the people from the other end of the M66, then you wonder why there is so much traffic congestion.

Lastly, where are these jobs going to come from? You can only have so many cafes and takeaways. David Love via email
