Ourselves to blame says Brent

-

BACUP Borough manager Brent Peters says the team only have themselves to blame after suffering a 1-0 loss at Garstang on Saturday.

Peters’ men came up short in the game after Michael Gervin missed a penalty for the visitors.

“It is not a mystery how we failed to get anything from this game. The simple facts were we had enough opportunities to have scored, but we failed to score from 12 yards out from the penalty spot, when normally we are clinical,” he said.

“It’s no excuse that Anthony Hall was not playing, as we have several other players in the team that would have been composed to equalise. I am not saying our taker was not composed, but you would expect someone to hit the target from 12 yards out.

“I will take the blame because it was me that selected the boy to take the penalty in Anthony’s absence, and in all honesty at Daisy Hill he was in the main clinical from the spot but we can all have a bad day at the office.

“We were far from clinical, so on that front we have only ourselves to blame for the reason we came away with nothing.

“Did the boys play well? Yes. Did the boys work hard? Yes. Were we chasing the game from a bad decision from our goalkeeper? Yes. Did we miss good opportunities? Yes. So in the main this was one of those games that we must learn and kick on from.”

Bacup will now look to get back to winning ways when up next for them is a home game against Atherton LR this weekend.

Bacup will start as favourites for the match, as Atherton are bottom of the table.
