Care staff praised for ‘good’ mark
A CARE home manager has saluted her staff for helping to deliver an improved inspection report.
Ash Cottage Residential Home, in Edenfield, achieved a ‘Good’ grade after being visited by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) last month.
In the report, published on May 31, the Crow Wood Road home was awarded a good mark across the board.
In its previous two inspections, Ash Cottage, which has 18 staff and some of its 20 residents living with dementia, had been told it required improvement, but they told us last summer they had already acted on delivering improvements.
The CQC stated: “People were happy about the way the home was managed and were complimentary about the registered manager and staff. The registered manager and the provider monitored all aspects of the service and took appropriate action to improve the service.
“People told us they felt safe and staff were kind and caring. The provider had safeguarding adults’ procedures and staff understood how to protect people from abuse.
“Recruitment processes ensured new staff were suitable to work in the home. Staff treated people with dignity, respect care and kindness. They spoke with people in a friendly and patient manner. Staff knew people well.”
The report found that access to a range of activities had improved.
It added that areas of the home needed refurbishment and redecoration and care plans did not always full reflect what staff knew about people’s likes and dislikes. However, extensive refurbishment work is due to be carried out from next month, while management have agreed to review care plan procedures in a new system.
Manager Yvonne Shaw said they were ‘very pleased’ with the report, adding: “The girls have worked hard. We have got a lot of work going on from July, as we are modernising the home. We are hoping to get outstanding next time.”
