Town pulls together for family fundraiser
A FUNDRAISING day collected £854 for a charity which grants wishes to critically ill children.
The event, in aid of Made a Wish UK, saw a football match at Marl Pits in Rawtenstall in the morning, followed by a fun day at the Cornerstone in Bacup.
It was organised by Sharney Royle, 25, and her dad Alan Royle, with help from their family.
The event at the Cornerstone was aimed at family fun and included a bouncy castle, face painting, girls doing hair, a raffle, auction and mascots.
Alan, who along with son David runs AD ●● Builders, helps organise several fundraisers and charity collections each year, raising thousands of pounds for various good causes.
Alan, of Newchurch Road, Bacup, said: “We had about 35 footballers in the morning. We always do a football match and they all pay a fiver or a tenner each to play.
“My sons love football and they all got involved.
“We had about 100 people altogether and it was a good event.
“I thought the charity is about kids so we’ll do a day event and get a bouncy castle in and we had a couple of singers on.”
Alan, 59, whose wife Tracey also helps with the fundraisers and with whom he used to run the town’s Flowers pub, got involved with fundraising after battling illness personally and in his family.
He added: “I’ve been doing this for about ten years. I just like doing it because it makes such a difference.
“Bacup people are good people and back everything I do. That’s why we raise a lot of money.
“The pubs in Bacup always back what we are doing and Morrisons in Bacup are brilliant for me.
“I collect a lot of money from there because everybody knows me.”
