Woman was nearly 3 times drink drive limit, court told
A WOMAN was caught driving at almost three times the legal limit, a court heard.
Samantha Jayne Grove was witnessed by another member of the public on Bocholt Way in Rawtenstall before colliding with the pavement, causing one of her tyres to ‘blow’.
Prosecutor Alex Man told Burnley Magistrates Court that Grove was over the drink driving limit by ‘quite an amount’.
She said: “This was a period of driving witnessed by another member of the public.
“Unfortunately she wasn’t in a fit state to drive.
“There was a collision with a pavement causing the tyre to blow, perhaps fortunately.”
Grove provided an alcohol reading of 104mg in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mg.
The 45-year-old pleaded guilty to drink driving.
Defence solicitor Glen Wrigley said the defendant has no previous convictions and the incident has had a ‘devastating change’ on her life.
He told the court: “I could speak at length in relation to this case and one day when we come back to court I will.
“There’s nothing I can say that can take away her shame and regret.”
Mr Wrigley said it was a ‘momentary or brief lapse of judgement’ and requested the probation service prepare a pre-sentence report.
He said: “There are aggravating and mitigating features and there’s plenty of mitigation I have to say.”
Magistrates handed Grove, of Glenavon Drive, Rochdale, an interim driving disqualification and granted her unconditional bail to appear at Blackburn Magistrates Court on July 23.
They ordered the probation service to prepare an ‘all options’ report for the sentencing hearing.
