Final-ball boundary silences T20 fans

HASLINGDEN’S young T20 team travelled to Hare Hill to play Littleboro­ugh on Friday night.

The game started a little later than scheduled owing to the exceptiona­lly heavy traffic in the Littleboro­ugh area and the home team won the toss and elected to bat first.

Leicesters­hire all-rounder Arron Lilley was the sub profession­al for Haslingden.

Matthew Griffin and Oliver Lord opened the bowling.

There was an early breakthrou­gh for Griffin with Hernon being caught by Joe Sipocz when the score was on 19.

The Littleboro­ugh profession­al Travis Townsend and Chris Perren then put on 47 in quick time before Perren was bowled by Sean Hunsley for 25.

The runs continued to flow with Townsend putting on another 57 with Smith-Butler before Lilley took the first of his two wickets, bowling Townsend. Littleboro­ugh moved onto 139-5 in their 20 overs.

Lilley and Griffin opened the batting for Haslingden and the score was 92 when Lilley was bowled by Kershaw for 57 off 42 balls.

When Griffin was out for 25, there then followed two quick wickets before Oliver Cameron came in with the score on 111.

Cameron put on 27 with Hunsley and the 18th over was crucial with Cameron scoring 12 runs from it.

Hunsley was bowled with the third ball of the 20th over with the score on 138.

Joe Hayton was run out, making sure that Cameron was on strike for the next ball.

Haslingden needed two runs from the last ball and with Cameron on strike he hit a leg stump half volley for four to silence the Littleboro­ugh crowd and giving Haslingden victory by four wickets. Cameron finished on 23 not out from 16 balls. ●● Rochdale bowler Steven Oddy finished with figures of 6-17 ITH Cricket World Cup excitement currently sweeping the globe, the Lancashire League also enjoyed a fantastic few days of action over the past weekend.

In Division One, Ramsbottom earned a win as they defeated Todmorden by two wickets at Acre Bottom.

Todmorden won the toss and decided to bat first, but they were bowled all out for only 119.

Jon Fielding (3-26) and Matt Burdaky (3-40) were the pick of the bowlers.

Ramsbottom reached the target with 15 overs and two wickets to spare, finishing on 120-8 to come out on top.

Rochdale triumphed as they defeated Darwen by five wickets at Redbrook. Rochdale won the toss and decided to field and they performed brilliantl­y with the ball as they bowled their opponents out for just 82, with Steven Oddy finishing with figures of 6-17.

Rochdale reached their target with around 10 overs to spare, as profession­al Edward Moore hit 43 as his side reached 84-5 and secured the victory.

Norden ran out winners after a 58-run victory over Crompton at Glebe Street.

Norden won the toss and decided to bat first and they finished on 202 all out after 50 overs, with top scores from Saif Bhojani (61) and Harvey Fitton (59).

Despite a score of 66 from Mohammad Jamal, the rest of the Crompton batsmen struggled in response and were bowled all out for 144 in 36 overs as Norden came out on top and claimed the win.

Accrington came up short away from home as they were defeated by seven wickets against Walsden at Scott Street.

Walsden won the toss and decided to field and it proved to be a wise choice as Accrington struggled with the bat and were bowled all out for just 66, with only Matt Wilson (17) managing to reach double figures.

Walsden needed just 16 overs to chase down the total, as they finished on 69-3 to condemn Accrington to defeat.

Church were beaten away from home as they lost by six wickets against Burnley at The MyProtein Turf Moor.

Church won the toss and decided to bat first, but only profession­al Qaasim Adams (50 not out) reached double figures as they finished on 109 all out.

Burnley needed just 21 overs to reach the target, making it to 110-4 to come out on top.

There was more disappoint­ment for Church, after they lost by 35 runs against Todmorden in the second round of the Worsley Cup at Blackburn Road.

Elsewhere in Division One, Lowerhouse picked up a 27-run win over Clitheroe at Chatburn Road.

In Division Two, Bacup claimed a 10-run victory over Colne at Lanehead. Bacup batted first after winning the toss, ending on 213-4 after an unbeaten 94 from Matt Collinge, while Chris Gansler (44) and Matt Thompson (28 not out) also chipped in.

Colne pushed their opponents close in response but were bowled all out for 203, meaning Bacup come out on top by 10 runs.

Haslingden were emphatic winners as they won by nine wickets

Todmorden were bowled all out for only 119 – Fielding and Burdaky were the pick of the bowlers

against Great Harwood at The CDM Windows Bentgate Cricket Ground.

Great Harwood won the toss and decided to bat and they were bowled all out for 115 in 47 overs.

Haslingden were dominant in reply and needed just 16 overs to chase down the target, with opener Graham Knowles hitting an unbeaten 63 from 61 balls to help his side earn the impressive nine wicket win.
