On last week’s obituaries page we ran a notice for Mr John Naylor Murgatroyd, of Greenbank Park, Rawtenstall, who died on Sunday, June 21.

The incorrect age was supplied to us by the funeral director.

We wish to make it clear that Mr Murgatroyd was 94 years old, not 64.

ROSSENDALE council say they are ready to make payments of up to £10,000 under The Local Business Discretionary Grants Fund.

The Local Business Discretionary Grant Fund is administered by Rossendale council, and is aimed at businesses not eligible for the recent Small Business Grant Fund or the Retail, Leisure and Hospitality Fund.

The council says the first wave of applications under the latest coronavirus relief scheme for businesses have been authorised and are due to be paid out this week. The payouts amount to around £207,000 in all.

There were 80 initial applications of which 40 have been assessed and allocated. The further 40 require additional information before they can be signed off and, in addition, there will be some targeted applications going out.

The grants will help support local businesses by providing much needed funding to help them meet the cost of continuing to run their business during this difficult time.
