SISTERS who have been making guardian angel keepsakes for key workers have received Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s daily Points of Light award.

Ebonae-Rose and Summer Meeks, aged 5 and 7, of Goodshaw Avenue, Crawshawbooth, have sent more than 9,000 handmade guardian angel keepsakes to key workers across the UK accompanied by a handwritten thank you note. The sisters were inspired by their father Jamie, who is a firefighter, their grandmother, who is a nurse, and their aunt, who is a paramedic, to provide a way of sharing hope and positivity with other families whose loved ones have been supporting communities across the country throughout the pandemic.

In a personal letter to Ebonae-Rose and Summer, Mr Johnson said: “I am amazed to hear you have sent your handmade guardian angels to over 9,000 of our extraordinary key workers, like your Dad, Aunt and Grandmother.

“These dedicated people are our country’s guardian angels and it is wonderful that you have created this way of saying thank you for how they look after us and keep us safe.

“So today I want to recognise you as the UK’s 1449th and 1450th Points of Light! On behalf of the whole country, thank you, and congratulations!”

The Crawshawbooth Primary School pupils said: “We can’t believe it, it feels so amazing that we have been helping so many people.

“We hope our Angels keep protecting people. We want to keep making and sending them so we can help everyone get better and protect them all. We hope soon everyone will be wearing them.”

Ebonae-Rose and Summer said they were “so happy” at the award, which follows their Everyday Hero award from BBC North West Tonight earlier in the summer.

After that award the girls’ mum Tracey said: “We are proud beyond belief and so overwhelmed. Thank you so, so much.”

The Prime Minister’s UK daily Points of Light award was first launched in April 2014 to recognise outstanding individuals making a difference where they live. As the UK unites to fight the spread of coronavirus, the award is focusing exclusively on people serving their community through the pandemic.
