VALLEY GPs say they are “ready and waiting” to book residents in for vital flu vaccinations as part of measures to combat a possible Covid-19 second wave.

They advise it is more important than ever - especially for vulnerable patients - to get vaccinated this year due to the pandemic, and have offered reassurances about the safety of medical environments.

A group of nine medical practices across Rossendale have jointly issued a statement - in which they stress that flu is unpredictable and can catch you out if you are not protected, curbing flu will reduce pressure on the NHS particularly in these trying times, and the vaccination will protect families and local communities against serious complications such as bronchitis and pneumonia.

The practices are Irwell Medical Practice, Rossendale Valley Medical Practice, Dr Mackenzie & Partners, The Surgery Haslingden, Whitworth Medical Practice, Fairmore Medical Practice, St James Medical Practice, Waterfoot Medical Practice and Ilex View Medical Practice,

It is recommended that anyone in particularly high risk groups has a flu vaccination every year to help protect them.

Dr John OMalley, speaking on behalf of the surgeries, said: “We want to reassure you that your safety is of upmost importance to us. Appointments will be booked at longer intervals to ensure you are able to maintain social distancing whilst attending.

“We’re cleaning all surfaces and equipment throughout the day and wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment. Hand sanitising

“We are asking all patients to attend at your appointment time and where possible on your own. Please wear a face covering and observe the social distancing measures that we have in place.

“Please also wear suitable clothing so that you can easily remove outer layers of clothing preferably with short sleeves.”
