BAKING queen Molly Robbins will be casting her expert eye over your best Christmas cakes in a competition run by Rossendale Hospice.

The inaugural Christmas Cake Competition is part of ongoing fundraising efforts by the Hospice, which is need of help and support more than ever.

To enter you simply have to buy a Christmas Cake Kit and send a photo of your finished masterpiece to the Hospice.

Judge Molly, renowned for creating exquisite cakes, is from Crawshawbooth and is also an avid supporter of the charity.

As well as helping raise much needed funds, entrants are in line to win a luxury hamper as well as Molly’s Creature Creator.

The competition comes as the Hospice has launched an appeal, ‘In Just One Day’, to call for supporters to sponsor a day of care.

Joanna Williams, community fundraiser said: “This year has been incredibly challenging for so many and we wanted to herald the Christmas season in with a fun competition for local residents.

“We’ve had to cancel so many fundraising events this year but we’re hoping Rossendale bakers will rise to this challenge and help raise funds for us!

“We are extremely thankful to the Co-op in Haslingden for sponsoring our competition and making it possible.”

Christmas Cake-Off launches on Monday, October 5. The Cake Kits, costing £15, can be purchased by visiting the Rossendale Hospice website. They can be further embellished and decorated as classically or elaborately as each baker wishes – marzipan icing or dusted with icing sugar, finished off with satin ribbons or little figurines in a snowscape.

In April, we revealed the charity was facing its biggest shortfall in funding in its 32-year history due to the coronavirus pandemic - estimating it would lose a quarter of its income.

Supporters of the ‘In Just One Day’ appeal will get to choose which day of the year they would like to sponsor and how they would like to gift their support, by either easy monthly instalments from as little as £10, or a one-off sponsorship. In turn, supporters will hear about the impact their donation has made to patients and their families or carer(s) in our community.

CEO Irene Smith said: “Our clinical team impact so many lives and we’re now asking our wonderful community to support us in providing vital care to those who need it the most.

“Local and national restrictions which have been imposed have made it difficult to get out and about as normal. The good news is that you can become a Rossendale Hospice Supporter without leaving the comfort and safety of your own home.”
