Schools open up doors to welcome virtual tourists
SCHOOLS are offering the opportunity to take a virtual tour this month to replace the traditional open evening event.
The Valley Leadership Academy, in Stacksteads, will be holding a virtual open evening event on Thursday, October 8. While Alder Grange School is offering prospective pupils and their parents the opportunity to tour the school online throughout October.
From Thursday there will be a video tour and downloadable prospectus live on the Rawtenstall school’s website.
Parents interested in applying for their child to start at the school in September 2021 will be able to view the school facilities and hear from students and teachers online.
The high school had planned to host its annual open evening this month, however, to ensure COVID-19 safety guidelines are met, they decided to host a virtual tour this year instead of a physical on-site event.
Newly unveiled Valley Leadership Academy executive principal Andrew O’Brien will be talking about the school via an online video at 5.30pm and 7pm. Subject videos and a tour of the school will also be made available online.
Parents are also able to book on to a socially distanced tour, which will take place on October 8 from 4.30 to 7pm.
Alder Grange headteacher Joanna Griffiths said: “Open Evening is always a big event in our school calendar which we really look forward to.
“It’s great to welcome people to our school and there’s always a great atmosphere and buzz of excitement as our pupils and teachers host activities and chat with children and their parents.
“Whilst it’s disappointing not to be in a position to be able to host the event this year, safety is our top priority, so we set about offering an alternative.
“The benefit of our virtual open event is that parents and prospective pupils can explore Alder Grange at any time, any place.
“We can’t wait to show people around our wonderful school - virtually.”
