Newcomers hit for six by freescoring Stags

- STEVE BAYES

ROSSENDALE’S third away trip on the bounce saw them hit league newcomers Cadley FC for six at the weekend.

A very dominant team performance saw them come away with the victory, three points and a good addition to the goal difference.

Rossendale started the match on the front foot, closing down the Cadley players whenever they were in possession of the ball.

After a couple of attempts at goal Rossendale took the lead on 12 minutes when a driven corner from the right from Luke Simpson was met at the near post by Paul Stannard who headed home to give the stags a deserved early lead.

Rossendale continued to dominate and doubled their lead on 26 minutes when a Cadley ball forward was headed out to the left by Simon Nangle to Tom Hulme just inside his own half. Hulme went down the wing past two defenders and crossed into the area where Luke Simpson controlled the ball, turned and hit a brilliant shot into the top left hand corner before the keeper could move. Four minutes later it was 3-0 when another Simpson corner was headed powerfully home by Hulme.

Further chances came and went and at half time it remained 3-0.

Cadley started the second half better than Rossendale and within five minutes had reduced the arrears when a difficult ball forward onto the edge of the area where an under pressure central defender Adam McInnes attempted a downward header to keeper Joe Sipocz, the ball fell short and the striker put the ball past Sipocz into the net.

For ten minutes the goal lifted Cadley as Rossendale couldn’t get going, but on 63 minutes the stags regained their three goal advantage when Hulme broke into the area from the right, past a defender and his left foot shot took a deflection past the stranded keeper.

The goal knocked the stuffing out of Cadley and some silly petty challenges brought repeated free kicks for Rossendale, and from one of these free kicks on 72 minutes Rossendale got their fifth goal when Stannard crossed the ball from the left edge of the penalty area and from a difficult height a great back heel from Nangle shot into the net past the startled keeper for his first goal for the club.

Rossendale were surging forward at will now and with the defence and midfield three of Joel Howorth, Will Foster and Sam Moriaty still snapping at the heels of the Cadley players another goal was on the cards and it duly came on 82 minutes when the midfield closed down Cadley and played the ball into the area which found substitute Scott Wylie, he was challenged by a defender and the ball broke to young substitute Jacob Bridges who smashed the ball into the corner for his first goal for the club.

A thoroughly dominant performance throughout from the the Stags brought a third consecutive away victory, and on Saturday they return to Marl Pits for a home match against Chipping the match kicks off at 3pm.
