Culture venues’ £300,000 lifeline
THREE Rossendale venues are to share nearly £300,000 as part of the Government’s £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund (CRF).
The funding has been set aside to help face the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic and to ensure organisations have a sustainable future, the Culture Secretary announced.
Whitaker Museum & Art Gallery in Rawtenstall has received £155,375, Dansworks Dance Academy of Performing Arts Community Interest Company £89,600 and Bacup Royal Court Theatre will receive £50,000.
Lancashire County Museum Service, which includes Helmshore Mills Textile Museum, has also been awarded £65,000.
County Coun Peter Buckley, cabinet member for cultural services, said: “Lancashire is rich in its heritage and culture, and our collections and venues reflect that diversity and uniqueness.
“Our Mills are an important part of this heritage and their unique appeal is that they are cotton and wool manufactories operating with original machinery in original locations.
“Preserving and developing specialist skills required to run this equipment is vital, and this grant from Arts Council England will help us to do that.”
SOME good news this week for the Royal Court Theatre in Bacup.
It’s been awarded £50,000 to help make it through Coronavirus.
The Whitaker in Rawtenstall has received £155k while the Dansworks Dance Academy has received £89,600.
The cash comes from Arts Council England as part of the Government’s £1.57bn to support culture during Covid.
It’s great to see money making it to local organisations, and especially so for the Royal Court, which is an amazing gem of a venue which deserves all the support in the world.
There aren’t too many places where you feel wrapped up in the history and glamour of the theatre, and even fewer away from big cities.
Fingers crossed it won’t be too long before we’re able to get back in there and support it ourselves.
