MR John Mason, of Park Road, Waterfoot, died on Wednesday, October 7, at the Royal Blackburn Hospital after a short illness, aged 94.

John lived all his life in the Waterfoot area.

He started his working life at Whitewell Bottom Co-op before serving as a radio operator with the King’s Hussars in Belgium and Germany during the war, and in Palestine after the war in Europe had ended. Most of his working life was spent as a travelling sales representative for various companies, selling soft and alcoholic beverages, but mainly cider for the Showerings group.

He enjoyed spending time with the family and was a season ticket holder at Blackburn Rovers, from being demobbed in 1947, until just recently when declining health prevented him from attending every game.

John was the husband of the late Vera Mason, survived his late son Andrew, and leaves son David, his wife Sandra, daughter-in-law Diane, grandchildren Lee, Thomas, Scott, Andrea and Liane, and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will take place at Longholme Methodist Church, conducted by David Burrow, on Monday, October 19 at 11am, followed by cremation at Burnley Crematorium.
