Care home praised for Covid safety measures
A CARE home has been praised for its Covid safety measures following a recent inspection.
Barley View care home in Whitworth, was inspected by the Care Quality Commission and was found to be following safe infection prevention and control procedures - to keep residents and safe.
The home on Buxton Street provides care for 27 residents.
During the pandemic the home has had to adapt to keep its residents safe, including weekly testing for staff and monthly testing for residents while also upskilling staff as GPs are not able to visit the home.
There are also separate meal arrangements and separate changing rooms, break rooms and toilets all with social distancing rules.
The home has also built a summerhouse to facilitate safe visits, and set up video calls on laptops for residents and family to keep in touch.
At its CQC full inspection last year it was rated as ‘requiring improvement’, but bosses say they are pleased with progress made.
Jane Williamson, head of care, said: “Our last inspection was more than a year ago and we are incredibly proud of the work that our team have done since, to ensure that Barley View is as safe as possible for residents and their families, whilst maintaining a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
“We are pleased that our most recent CQC inspection, which focused on Covid safety, found no issues and commended us on the measures we have in place to protect our residents and staff.”
Barley View has also been keeping residents’ spirits up with a range of activities including parties, pub nights, arts and crafts and lots of dancing and singing.
This included a ‘feel good Friday’ where staff brought extra skills such as hairdressing and make-up to pamper residents.
Residents were also treated to a fortnightly outdoor performance by the Cotton Shed Theatre Company, watching the shows from their balconies.
